

After many years and many trips to the Shire Hall in Cambridge, it is still most likely that the Haylocks in East Anglia can trace their family roots back to West Wratting. It took some several days of studying the Enclosure map in the Shire hall to pinpoint all the pieces of property in the Village of West Wratting that belonged to various members of the Haylock family. A tracing of the Enclosure map was made and the legend was copied to show the properties that the Haylocks owned at the time of the Enclosures in the early 1800's. A copy of this map is enclosed.

Whereas in and by an Act of Parliament passed in the forty ninth year of the reign of his present Majesty, King George the Third and in the year of our Lord One thousand Eight hundred and nine entitled "An Act for inclosing lands in the "Parish of West Wratting in the County of Cambridge" Reciting that there were in the said Parish of West Wratting certain old Inclosures Open and Common Fields Common Meadows Heaths and other open and Commonable Lands and Wast Groundes That the Revered the Dean and Chapter of Ely claimed to be Lords of the Manor of West Wratting on West Wratting aforesaid That the Governors of the Charity for the Relief of poor Widows and Children of Clergymen claimed to be Lords Of the Manors of Hammonds Paris's in West Wratting aforesaid That the Master and Fellows or Scholars of the House or College of Saint Peter in the University of Cambridge commonly called Peter House claimed to be Lords of the Manor or reputed Manor of Escaliers commonly called Charles in West Wratting aforesaid and the master Fellow and Scholars of the College of the Blessed Virgin Mary Saint John the Evangelist and the Glorious Virgin Saint Rhadegund in the said University commonly called Jesus' College claimed to be Lords of the manor or reputed Manor of Le Great Nuns in West Wratting aforesaid that Sir Hedworth Williamson, Baronet, claimed to be Lord of the Manor of Oxcroft within the said Parish that the said Dean and Chapter were also appropriators of the appropriate Rectory of West Wratting aforesaid and in right thereof were entitled to the Rectory House and to all the great or octorial Tithes arising and renewing within the said parish (save and except as thereinafter is mentioned) and also to certain Glebe lands lying within the said parish and GEORGE HAYLOCK of West Wratting aforesaid Esquire was lessee of the said Rectory House for the residue of a term of twenty-one years then to come therein and that Harry Frost of West Wratting aforesaid Gentleman was Lessee of the said Great or Rectorial Tithes and Glebe Lands for the residue of a term of twenty-one years when to come therein and the said Dean and Chapter of Ely were also seized of divers Lands in the said parish that the said Dean and Chapter of Ely were also patrons of the Vicarage of West Wratting aforesaid and William Bywater Clerk was vicar of the said Vicarage and as such was entitled to the Vicarage House and all the vicarial tithes rising and receiving within the said parish (save and except as hereinafter is mentioned) And also to certain Glebe Lands lying within the said parish and also to the tithes of the several windmills within the said parish and likewise to the yearly pension of Thirty Eight pounds [Page 266] issuing and payable out of the Rectorial Tithes of the said appropriate Rectory of West Wratting aforesaid. That Edward Wolleston Clerk as Rector of Balsham in the said County of Cambridge claimed to be entitled in right of his said Rectory to a certain portion of the great and small tithes of the said parish of West Wratting arising from a certain Farm in West Wratting aforesaid called Oxcroft and to certain Catchpole Tithes arising from certain lands lying in a Mill Field and Yeanold Field in West Wratting aforesaid containing in the whole by estimation ten acres of thereabouts (be the same more or less)
AND that the Governors of the said Charity for the relief of the poor widows and children of clergymen the said Master and Fellows or Scholars of the said House or College commonly called Peter House and the said master and fellows and Scholars of the said College commonly called Jesus college and the Right Honorable Francis Godolphin Osborne, commonly called Lord Francis Godolphin Osborne [and] Thomas Hall Esquire and General in His Majesty's Forces and divers other persons were seized of the residue of the said Old Inclosures Open and Common Fields Common Meadows Heaths and other Open and Commonable Lands and Waste Grounds within the said parish of West Wratting and that some of them were or claimed to be entitled to common of pasture for their sheep and other cattle in over and upon the same or some part of parts thereof. And Further Reciting that an act was passed in the he forty-first year of the reign of his present Majesty intitled "An Act for consolidating in bone act certain provisions usually inserted in Acts of Inclosure and for facilitation the mode of improving the several facts usually required on the passing of such acts"
And Also Reciting that the lands in the said open and common fields say intermixed and dispersed in small parcels and the said Common Meadows Heaths and other open and Commonable Lands and Waste Grounds in their then state yielded but little profit and were incapable of any considerable improvements and that it would be very advantageous if the same were divided and allotted amongst the several owners thereof and persons interested therein proportion and according to their respective estates rights and interests in the same and if such allotments were inclosed so far as might be expedient and if all the Old Inclosures Lands and Grounds in the said parish were exonerated from the payment of tithes but that inasmuch as such Division Allotment Inclosure and Exoneration from tithes could not be effected without the aid and authority of Parliament
It was thereby enacted that we the said John Dugmore [and] Charles Wedge and Joseph Truslove should be and we were thereby appointed commissioners for carrying the purposes of the said Act of Parliament passed in the forty first year of the reign of his present Majesty and the now reciting Act into execution and that all Acts [Page 267] matters and things done by any two of us by virtue of the said Act should be to all intents and purposes as valid and effectual as if the same had been done and performed by all of us.
And whereas we the said John Dugmore [and] Charles Wedge and John Truslove having taken upon ourselves the execution of the said Acts did at our first meeting for putting the same in execution holden at the Eagle and Child Inn in the Town of Cambridge aforesaid on the seventh day of July in the year one thousand eight hundred and nine duly qualify ourselves to act as commissioners in the execution thereof by taking and subscribing the Oath directed by the aforesaid Act of the forty first year of the reign of his present Majesty by us to be taken and subscribed and hereto annexed and intended to be intolled with this our award
And whereas we have in all other respects conformed ourselves to the directions of the said Act Now know Ye that We the said Commissioners by virtue of the powers and authorities given to us in and by the said recited Acts and in pursuance of the directions therein contained for carrying the same into execution - Have caused a survey or admeasurement to be made and verified upon the oaths of Edward Davy Wedge and Edward Gibbons Land Surveyors of the said Open and Common Fields Commonable Lands Commons and Waste Grounds and also of the Homesteads Gardens Orchards home Closes and old inclosed Lands and Grounds in West Wratting..-
QUANTITY OF LANDS IN THE WHOLE PARISH aforesaid which together contain three thousand five hundred and eight acres and six perches (that is to say) the said open and common fields commonable lands commons and waste grounds (exclusive of the turnpike roads and the public and private roads hereinafter set out) two thousand six hundred and twenty-four acres and thirteen perches, the said Homesteads gardens orchards Home Closes and Old Inclosures Lands and Grounds (exclusive of the Town Streets)

QUANTITY OF LAND IN THE ROADS AND STREETS sixty six acres two roods and twenty three perches And we the said commissions have set out and appointed and by these presents do set out and appoint the following public roads (that is to say)
PUBLIC CARRIAGE ROAD - CAMBRIDGE ROAD One breadth of forty feet beginning at the North West end of the Village of West Wratting aforesaid and proceeding in a North and Westward direction in its present tract till it enters the parish of West Colville over a part of which it passes for the length of thirty six chains and from the point where it leaves the said parish of Weston Colville and again enters the said parish of West Wratting til it joins the Turnpike Road [Page 268] at Mutlow Hills near Balsham Ditch.
BALSHAM ROAD One other public carriage road and driftway called the Balsham Road of the breadth of forty feet beginning at the Homestall belonging to William Dear at the north west end of West Wratting aforesaid and proceeding on a Westward direction to a Homestall called Oxcroft where it enters the Parish of Balsham.
ROAD FROM NEWMARKET TO LINTON One other public carriage road and driftway of the breadth of forty feet being the road from Newmarket to Linton beginning where the present road enters the said parish of West Wratting on the side of Weston Colville and proceeding in a westward direction and nearly in its ancient course to its ancient entrance into the parish of Balsham.
SAFFRON WALDEN ROAD One other public carriage road and driftway of the breadth of forty feet (except such part as goes between Old Inclosures) called the Saffron Walden Road beginning at the Blacksmiths shop near the Waver pond in West Wratting aforesaid and proceeding in a Southward direction and in its ancient course to the boundary of the parish of West Wickham.
GREEN END ROAD One other public carriage road and driftway of the breadth of forty feet called the Green End Road branching out of the east described road on the Green and proceeding in a Westward direction and in its ancient course to an ancient lane near the Home Stall of a Farm belonging to John Chester Pern, Esquire in the occupation of Dean Piper.
WITHERSFIELD ROAD One other public carriage road and driftway of the breadth of forty feet called the Withersfield Road beginning at the said blacksmiths shop in West Wratting aforesaid and proceeding in a Southward direction over the Green and the commons called the High and Low Streets till it enters the parish of West Wickham.
WEST WICKHAM ROAD One other public carriage and driftway of the breadth of forty feet called the West Wickham Road beginning where the present road enters the said Parish of West Wratting on the side of Weston Colville and proceeding in a southwestward direction across the common called the High Street to the boundary of the said Parish of West Wickham. And we do hereby further order direct and award that the herbage of the several public broads in the said parish of West Wratting and of the Turnpike road passing through the same shall belong to and be had taken and enjoyed by the several proprietors of lands adjoining the said roads respectively from their respective [Page 269] fences to the center of the said roads.
PRIVATE ROADS And we the said commissioners have set out and appointed and by these presents do set out and appoint the following twelve private carriage roads or ways (that is to say)
FIRST PRIVATE ROAD The first of the breadth of thirty feet branch out of the Cambridge Road on the Heather out to the north west corner of an allotment to the Master Fellows and Scholars Of Jesus College and proceeding in a Southward direction along the west side of the fence of the said allotment and also on the west side of the fence of another allotment to the said Master Fellows and Scholars and the Trustees of the late Sir Hedworth Williamson (their leasee) to the allotment set out for a public stone and gravel Pit.
SECOND PRIVATE ROAD The second of the breadth of thirty feet called the Old Slough Road branching out of the Balsham Road at the east corner of an allotment to the heirs of the late JAMES HAYLOCK and proceeding in a northward direction along the fence on the east side of the said allotment till it joins the ancient tract of the Old Slough Road and from thence in a westward direction along the ancient tract of the said Slough Road to an allotment to the corporation of the sons of the clergy and from thence in a northward direction along the fence on the east side of the said allotment for the distance of three hundred and two yards and from thence turning in a Westward direction till it joins the Newmarket and Linton Road opposite the end of the tenth private road.
THIRD PRIVATE ROAD The third of the breadth of twenty feet branching out of the village street at the west corner of an allotment to the heirs of the late GEORGE HAYLOCK and proceeding in a northward direction along the west side of the said allotment to two cottages and a garden belonging to EDWARD HAYLOCK.
FOURTH PRIVATE ROAD The fourth of the breadth of twenty feet branching out of the Saffron Waldon Road against the second allotment to the Reverend the Dean and Chapter of Ely and proceeding in a southwest direction between the said allotment and the said Saffron Walden road to an allotment to the Master Fellows and Scholars of Peter House College in the occupation of William Clarke.
FIFTH PRIVATE ROAD The fifth of the breadth of thirty feet branching out of the Withersfield Road at the East corner of Wratting Park and proceeding across part of the lower shrub common in a southwestward direction to an allotment and old inclosed land belonging to the heirs of the late GEORGE HAYLOCK.
SIXTH PRIVATE ROAD the sixth of the breadth of twenty feet branching out of the Withersfield Road at the South Corner of Lands allotted to the sons of the clergy and proceeding in a northeastward direction to the cottage [Page 270] and garden belonging to Robert Hayward.
SEVENTH PRIVATE ROAD The seventh of the breadth of thirty feet branching out of the Withersfield Road opposite a cottage and garden belonging to Mary Tilbrook and proceeding in an Eastward direction to the said cottage thence in a south eastward direction along the southwest side of divers cottages and gardens belonging to William Bayley [and] Sarah Bird and others to the north corner of an old inclosure belonging to the corporation of the sons of the clergy.
EIGHTH PRIVATE ROAD The eighth of irregular width branching out of the Green Ends road and proceeding in a southward direction between cottages belonging to the aforesaid John Chester Pern and an allotment to him to an ancient lane leading to Old Inclosures belonging to the said John Chester Pern and to Richard Dean.
NINTH PRIVATE ROAD The Ninth of the breadth of twenty feet branching out of the Green End road and proceeding in a southward direction between allotments to Joseph Elam and others and Roger Cracknell to a Homestead belonging to Joseph Ellam the younger.
TENTH PRIVATE ROAD The tenth of the breadth of forty feet branching out of the Newmarket and Linton Road opposite the end of the second private road and proceeding between allotments to the Vicar of West Wratting and the Governors of the corporation of the Sons of the Clergy and proceeding from thence in a Northwestward direction to the east corner of an allotment to the trustees of the late Sir Hedworth Williamson.
ELEVENTH PRIVATE ROAD The eleventh of the breadth of thirty feet being a continuation of the Green End public road and proceeding in a northwestward direction on the northeast side of Fences of old inclosed Lands belonging to John Chester Pern the governors of the said corporation, the Master Fellows and Scholars of Peter House College and the Oxcroft Closes till it joins the public road from West Wratting to Balsham.
TWELFTH PRIVATE ROAD the twelfth of the breadth of twenty five feet beginning at the west corner of the third allotment to the Master Fellows and Scholars of Peter House College and proceeding thence in a northeast direction by the side of the Balsham Ditch to the west corner of Oxcroft Heath and thence proceeding in a northeast direction to the south end of the first private road.
And we do hereby further order direct and award that the several private roads by us hereinbefore set out and appointed shall be for the sole use and occupation of the owners and occupiers of and persons interested in the he lands or tenements adjoining such roads or to which they respectively lead and where they lead to any sites or places herein set out as and for home gravel clay chalk and mortar pits or watering places then also for the use of all persons entitled to use such pits and watering places.
[Page 271] And we do hereby further order direct and award that the Herbage of the several private roads in the said parish of West Wratting shall belong to and be had taken and enjoyed by the several persons over or through whose lands or grounds the said private roads shall respectively pass or go and where the said private roads shall pass between different properties the said herbage shall belong to and be had taken and enjoyed by the proprietors of the lands adjoining the said roads respectively from their respective fences to the centre of the said roads. And we the said commissioners have set out and appointed and by these presents do set out and appoint the following public foot paths (that is to say)
FIRST PUBLIC FOOT PATH One public foot path or way of the breadth of four feet crossing part of the lower shrub at the south corner of an old inclosure lately belonging to John Hall, Esquire and now to the said corporation and proceeding in a southward direction across the said shrub and nearly in its ancient track to another old inclosure also belonging to the said corporation.
SECOND PUBLIC FOOT PATH One other public foot path or way of the breadth of four feet being part of the private road from West Wratting aforesaid to Balsham aforesaid beginning at the gate near a cottage occupied by Gabriel Stubbins and others belonging to the heirs of JAMES HAYLOCK and proceeding along the south west side of the said road to and into old inclosed lands belonging to the said corporation at the east corner thereof.
FIRST ALLOTMENT FOR STONE GRAVEL And we the said commissioners have in further pursuance of the directions of the said Act set out appointed and allotted and by these presents do award unto the Surveyors of the Highways of the said parish of West Wratting for the time being as and for public Stone Gravel Clay Chalk and Mortar Pits to be used for the repairs of the public roads in the said parish of West Wratting and for the use of the said Proprietors and their tenants the following pieces or parcels of land or ground (that is to say) One piece or parcel of land containing one acre and two roods bounded on the west by the Cambridge Road and on all other parts by an allotment to the Dean and Chapter of Ely. And we do order direct and award that the herbage of the said piece or parcel of lands shall belong to and be had taken and enjoyed by the said Dean and Chapter.
THE SAME SECOND ALLOTMENT One other piece or parcel of land (being part of the several Oxcroft Heath which the Trustees of Sir Hedworth Williamson deceased have given up to be allotted by the said Commissioners) containing one acre and too roods bounded on the east by an allotment to the Master Fellows and Scholars of Jesus College and to the said Trustees (their lessees) on the West and South by other part of the said several heath and on the north by the first and twelfth private roads being part of the allotment to the Trustees of the said Sir Hedworth Williamson. And we do order direct and award that the herbage of the said piece or parcel of land shall belong to and be had taken and enjoyed by the Trustees of the said Sir Hedworth Williamson deceased.
[Page 272] THE SAME THIRD ALLOTMENT [first line not readable due to inadequate photocopying] on the east by an old Inclosure called Birds belonging to the said Corporation on the southwest by an allotment to the Dean and Chapter of Ely and on all other paths thereof by the Saffron Walden Road. And we the said commissioners have in the next place set out allotted and awarded and by these presents do set out allot and owned the four following allotments to be used as public water pits by the Proprietors and Occupiers of Lands and tenements in the said parish of West Wratting (that is to say)
FIRST WATER PIT One pit or piece of water called or known by the name of the Waver bounded on the northeast by the Village Street on the south east by old inclosed land of James Norden and on the southwest by old inclosed land of Roger Cracknell.
SECOND WATER PIT One other pit or piece of Water called or known by the name of the Fleet Emmanuel bounded on the north east by old inclosed land of the Governors of the Corporation of the Sons of the Clergy on part of the south east by the third private road on the remaining part of the southeast by old inclosed land of Joseph Ellam and others on the south west by another pit or piece of water called the Deep Emmanuel hereinafter allotted to John Hall Esquire and on the north west by an allotment to the Governors of the said corporation.
THIRD WATER PIT One other pit or piece of water being opposite the Homestall of the Governors of the said Corporation in the occupation of John Becton bounded on the northeast by Withersfield Road and on all other parts thereof by the second allotment to EDWARD HAYLOCK.
FOURTH WATER PIT And one other pit or piece of water situate and being on the common called Low Shrub bounded on a part of the north west by an allotment to William Bayley on the north east by the seventh private road and on all other parts thereof by old inclosed lands belonging to the said corporation and by land belonging and allotted to Sarah Bird.
ALLOTMENTS TO APPROPRIATIONS IN LIEU OF GLEBE And we the said commissioners have in the next place set out allotted and awarded and by these presents do set out allot and award unto the Reverend the Dean and Chapter of Ely as the appropriators of the appropriate rectory of West Wratting aforesaid and to Harry Frost as their lessee as the full equivalent and compensation for the Glebe lands belonging to the said appropriate Rectory the following three allotments (that is to say)
FIRST ALLOTMENT IN LIEU OF GLEBE 35 ' U ' O FREEHOLD One piece or parcel of land or ground containing thirty five acres and one rood bounded on the North by an allotment to the said Dean and Chapter in lieu of tithes on the East by the Cambridge Road on the south by an allotment to the said Dean and Chapter for the Hall Farm and on the West by an Allotment to the Reverend William Bywater as vicar of the said parish the hedges ditches mounds and fences of which said allotment on the east and west sides thereof having been made at the expense of the other proprietors of lands within the said parish of West Wratting as directed by the said act. We do hereby [Page 273] order direct and award shall be for ever hereafter maintained and kept in repair by the said Dean and Chapter and their successors or their lessee for the time being.
SECOND ALLOTMENT IN LIEU OF GLEBE 2 ' O ' 35 FREEHOLD to and for the said Dean and Chapter and Thomas Norfolk and Elizabeth his wife (their Lessee) one other piece or parcel of land or ground containing two Acres and thirty five perches bounded on the northeast by old inclosed land of John Gilson on the south west and north west by old inclosed land of and an allotment to the said William Bywater as vicar the hedges ditches mounds and fences of which said allotment against the said allotment to the said vicar having been made by the other proprietors of lands within the said parish of West Wratting as directed by the said act. We do hereby order direct and award shall be for ever hereafter maintained and kept in repair by the owner and occupiers of the said allotment for the time being.
THIRD ALLOTMENT IN LIEU OF GLEBE O ' O ' 30 FREEHOLD And one other allotment piece or parcel of land or ground containing thirty perches bounded on the east by the Village Street on the south by old inclosed land of and on allotment to John Gilson and on the west by old inclosed land of the said Dean and Chapter and the said Thomas and Elizabeth [widow of George Haylock} Norfolk their Lessee the hedges ditches mounds and fences of which said allotment against the said Village Street and against the said Allotment to John Gilson having been made by the other proprietors of lands and grounds within the said parish of West Wratting as directed by the said act. We do hereby order direct and award shall be for ever hereafter maintained and kept in repair by the owners and occupiers of the said lands for the time being.
ALLOTMENT TO THE REVD WM BYWATER AS VICAR IN LIEU OF GLEBE LAND AND RIGHTS OF COMMON 1 ' 3 ' 29 FREEHOLD And we the said commissioners have also set out allotted and awarded and by these presents do set out allot and award unto and for William Bywater clerk as vicar of the said parish of West Wratting and his successors for the time being as a full equivalent and compensation for the Glebe lands and rights of common belonging to him as vicar as aforesaid the following piece or parcel of land or ground (that is to say) One piece or parcel of land or ground containing one acre three roods and twenty nine perches bounded on the North by old inclosed land of and an allotment to Thomas Norfolk as part of the east by old inclosed land of the said vicar on the remaining part of the east and on the south by old inclosed lands of and an allotment to the Dean and Chapter of Ely and Thomas Norfolk and Elizabeth his wife their lessee and on the west by an [Page 274] allotment to the said William Bywater as vicar as aforesaid the hedges ditches mounds and fences on the North side of which said allotment having been made at the expense of the other proprietors of lands within the said parish of West Wratting as directed by the said act. We do hereby order direct and award shall for ever hereafter be maintained and kept in repair by the said William Bywater and his successors as vicars as aforesaid.
FIRST ALLOTMENT TO THE APPROPRIATORS IN LIEU OF TITHES 622 ' 1 ' 10 FREEHOLD And we the said commissioners have also set out allotted and awarded and by these presents do set out allot and award unto and for the said Dean and Chapter of Ely as Appropriates aforesaid in lieu of all great tithes and of all Moduses Compositions and other payments in lieu of great tithes due to the said Dean and Chapter as appropriator as aforesaid and to Harry Frost their lessee the following piece a parcel of land or ground (that is to say) One piece or parcel of land or ground containing six hundred and twenty two acres one road and the perches bounded on the north and east by the Cambridge Road and by the parish of Weston Colville on part of the Southeast by the first allottment to the said Dean and Chapter for their Glebe lands on part of the Southwest and other part of the Southeast by an allotment to the said William Bywater as vicar as aforesaid on the other part of the southwest by an allotment to the Heirs of GEORGE HAYLOCK on other part of the southwest and remaining part of the southeast by an Allotment to William Dear on the remaining part of the southwest by the tenth private road or part of the west by an allotment to the trustees of the late Sir Hedworth Williamson as Proprietors and on the north and remaining part of the west by an allotment to the said Dean and Chapter of Ely hedges ditches mounds and fences on all sides thereof (except against the parish of Weston Colville and except against the allotment to the said appropriators for their Glebe lands) having been made at the expense of the other proprietors of land within the said parish of West Wratting as directed by the said act. We do hereby order direct and award for ever hereafter be kept in repair by the said Dean and Chapter of Ely as Appropriators as aforesaid.

Do set outallot and award unto and for the said William Bywater Clerk as vicar as aforesaid and his successors for the time living in lieu of all small tithes and all Moduses Compositions and other payments in lieu of tithes and of all Ecclesiastical dues and payments whatsoever (except Easter Offerings Mortiaries and Surplice fees and also except the tithes of the several Windmills within the said parish and also except the yearly pension of Thirty Eight pounds issuing and payable out of the Rectorial tithes of said appropriate Rectory of West Wratting) the follolwing pieces or parces of land or ground (that is to say) One piece or parcel of land or ground containing twenty nine acres two rood and thirty three perches bounded on the north by the Balsham Road on the northeast and part of the Northwest by old inclosed land hereinafter awarded in exchange to the said vicar on the east by four several allotments to Robert Starling, the Heirs of GEORGE HAYLOCK, Thomas Norfolk and the said William Bywater especially on the southeast by old inclosed land hereinafter awarded in exchange to the said William Bywater on the Southwest and on the west by an allotment to John Chester Pern the hedges ditches mounds and fences of which said allotment against the road and against the allotment to the said John Chester Pern having been made at the expense of the other proprietors of lands within the said parish of West Wratting as directed by the said act. We do hereby order direct and award shall for ever hereafter be maintained and kept in repair by the said William Bywater or the vicar of the said parish of West Wratting for the time being.
SECOND ALLOTMENT 79 ' 0 ' 0 FREEHOLD And also one other piece or parcel of land or ground containing seventy nine acres bounded on part of the northwest by an allotment to the heirs of GEORGE HAYLOCK on the remaining part of the Northwest and the Northeast by an allotment to the Dean and Chapter of Ely on the sough east by the Newmarket and Linton Road and on the southwest by the tenth private road the hedges ditches moujnds and fences of which said allotment against the said roads having been made at the expense of the other proprietors of lands within the said parish of West Wratting as directed by the said act. We do hereby order direct and award shall be for ever hereafter maintained and kept in repair by the said William Bywater or the vicar of the said parish of West Wratting for the time being.
THIRD ALLOTMENT 8 ' 0 ' 14 FREEHOLD And also one other piece or parcel of land or ground containing eight acress and fourteen perches bounded on the east by an allotment to John Smith, William Brazier, EDWARD HAYLOCK. FOURTH ALLOTMENT 15 ' 0 ' 0 ' FREEHOLD And also one other piece or parcel of land or ground containing fifteen acres bounded on The Northeast by the parish of Weston Colville on the southeast by an allotment to the Dean and Chapter of Ely on the southwest by the Withersfield Road and on the northwest by an allotment to EDWARD HAYLOCK the hedges ditches mounds and fences of which said allotment on the southeast and soutwest sides thereof having been made at the expence of the other proprietors of lands within the said parish of West Wratting as directed by the said act. We do hereby order direct and award shall for ever hereafter be maintained and kept in repair by the said William Bywater or the vicar of the said parish of West Wratting for the time being as aforesaid.
FIFTH ALLOTMENT TO THE SAID VICAR 4 ' 0 ' 35 FREEHOLD And we the said commissioners have also set out allotted and awarded and by these present do set out allott and award unto and for the said William Bywater and his successors vicar of West Wratting for the time being all that one piece or parcel of old inclosed land or ground called Challlis Hill being freehold late the property of the Master Fellows and Scholars of Peter House College containing four acres and thirty five perches which they have given up to be alloted by us bounded on the North by the Balsham Road on part of the Southeast and on the northeast by an Homestead belonging to William Dear on other part of the southeast by an allotment to Robert Starling and on all other parts by an allotment to the said William Bywater as vicar as aforesaid.
SIXTH ALLOTMENT TO THE VICAR 3 ' 1 ' 2' FREEHOLD and one othe piece or parcel of old inclosed land or ground late the property of the Trustees of the late Sir Hedworth Williamson containing three acres one rood and two perches called Willow Croft which they have given up to be allotted by us bounded on the Northwest by an allotment to the said William Bywater on the northeast by an allotment to the Dean and Chapter of Ely and on all other parts thereof by old Inclosures belonging to John Gilson the said Dean and Chapter and John Chester Pern.
ALLOTMENT TO THE REVEREND EDWARD WOLLASTON AS RECTOR OF BALSHAM 26 " 2 " 35 And we the said Commissioners in further pursuance of the said Act have set out allotted and awarded and by these presents do set out allott and award unto and for the said Edward Wallaston Clerk as Rector of and Balsham aforesaid and his successors in lieu of his right and interest of and ina ll tithes both great and small arising within the said parish [Page 277] Parish of West Wratting and in lieu of all Moduses Compositions and other payments in lieu of tithes and other ecclesiastical dues and payments whatsoever the following piece or parcel of land or ground (that is to say) One piece or parcel of land or ground containing twenty six acres two roods and thirtyfive perches bounded on the north by an allotment to the Master Fellows and Scholars of Peter House College on the east by an allotment to the Governors of the Corporation of the sons of the Clergy on the south by the Newmarket and Linton Road and on the West by the parish of Balsham the hedges ditches mounds and fences of which said allotment on the east and south sides thereof having been made at the expence of the other proprietors of lands within the said Parish of West Wratting as directed aby the said act. We do hereby order direct and appoint shall for ever hereafter be maintained and kept in repair by the said Edward Wollaston or his successors Rectors of Balsham for the time being.
OALLOTMENT TO THE DEAN AND CHAPTER OF ELY IN LIEU OF RIGHT OF SOIL 17 ' 2 ' 34 FREEHOLD And Further know ye that we the said commissioners in further pursuance of the said act have in the next place assigned set out allotted and awarded and by these presents do assign set out allot and award unto and for the said Dean and Chapter of Ely and their successors as Lords of the Manor of West Wratting in West Wratting aforesaid in lieu of and as a just compensation for all Manorial rights and interests in and to the soil of the Commons and Waste Lands within the said parish and being in our Judgment equal in value to one twentieth part of said Commons and Waste Lands One piece or parcel of land or ground containing seventeen acres two roods and thirty four perches situate and lying in the Upper shurb bounded on the North by an Allotment to William Bywater as vicar as aforesaid on the east by the parish of Weston Colville on the south by the West Wickham Road and on the west by land allotted to the said Dean and Chapter the hedges ditches mounds and fences of which said allotment against the said road. We order direct and award shall be made and for ever hereafter maintained and kept in repair by the said Dean and Chapter of Ely and the owners and occupiers of the said allotment for the time being.
ALLOTMENT OF THE RESIDUE And Further know ye that we the said commissioners in further pursuance of the several powers authorities and directions of the said Act have in the next place set out allotted and awarded and by these presents do set out allot and award the residue and remainder of the said lands and grounds by the said act directed to be divided and allott4ed unto and amongst the several persons entitled thereto or interested therein in the quantity shares and proportions hereinafter [Page 278] mentioned and set forth which as adjudge and deem to be just compensation and satisfaction for and to be equal to their several and respective lands and interest therein.
