This painting of three Haylock women was taken to Australia by Thomas Buswick Haylock in the 1850's. The family has always called this painting "The Lely". They do not know if the painting was actually painted by Sir Peter Lely or in the style of Lely. There is no signature on the painting. The family does not know which of the Haylock women are in the painting. Possibilties: The woman dressed in dark colors in the center could be the mother of the two younger ladies who are dressed in white, the traditional color for young, unmarried women. The young women look remarkably alike and it is assumed that they are sisters, close to the same age, and an outside possibility of being twins. The style of clothing suggests it may have been painted in the mid to late1600's, the time that Lely was living and painting during the reign of Charles II. The painting is still in the Haylock family and in Australia. (Some present day family members think that one of the girls in white may be Annis Haylock married to Thomas Marsh of Great Thurlow.)

The following records are the direct line of Haylocks who inherited the Manor of West Wratting in the Village of West Wratting, Cambs. England; they are taken from the earliest records in 1580 to 1846 when the property was sold after the death of Edward Haylock b. 1762.

The Haylocks then left West Wratting and settled in Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the United States.

These Records were hand copied by Jean Ann Eitel, a direct descendant of Edward and Dorothy Haylock, the last Haylock generation in West Wratting.
